Film Clips Character Education Program

Dear Parents/Guardians:

This year, Kedron Elementary will be participating in a new school-wide character education program. Film Clips is an exciting new approach to character education which reaches students through a medium for which they have a natural affinity: Hollywood movies. In this nine-part series, scenes from major motion pictures are used to help teachers and students engage in reflection and discussion about character and moral action.
At the core of this program are great moments from popular Hollywood movies that explore the 27 character traits that are most commonly found in character education programs throughout the country. Each character trait is explored by four age appropriate film clips especially chosen to stimulate creative reflection and discussion.
The scenes presented in this series correlate to “real life” experiences and draw students into a natural engagement with the subject. The curriculum includes discussion questions that ignite student reflection, personal exploration, and challenges students to explore and validate their priorities and values.
As a school, we will focus on one character trait per week. The character trait of the week will be posted on our weekly menu. This program will be presented during morning announcements over our school broadcast. No inappropriate material is included in any of the individual film clips.
You can find additional information concerning the Film Clips curriculum on our school website under counselor news or on the main website at www.filmclipsonline.com. We appreciate your continued support in joining us in creating and maintaining a safe, positive school environment. I welcome the opportunity to discuss any questions about the program. Please contact me at (770) 487-5425.

Best Regards,

Abigail Abel
